How These Stories Are Told

Two kinds of story live on this page, and we never blur the line between them.

County Case Files are retellings of El Dorado County's documented cases — drawn from newspapers, landmark records and venue histories, with sources cited at the end of every story. We keep the record's own hedges intact: where a source says “guests report” or “as the story goes,” so do we. A good story doesn't need our help, and it never gets it.

Field Reports are first-person accounts — from our own investigations, and from neighbors across the county who trust us with what they experienced. We publish them only with permission, exactly as told, and anonymously whenever the witness prefers.

Have You Experienced Something You Can't Explain in El Dorado County?

We want to hear it. A cold room that shouldn't be, a voice in an empty house, a figure on a back road — whatever it was, tell us what happened in your own words. We listen first, look for the ordinary explanation second, and never ridicule anyone for what they saw.

Your account can be shared anonymously — just say so in your message, and your name will never appear. Every report is handled with discretion and respect.
